Bromford Flagship responds to decision on Abbey planning application
Bromford Flagship has responded to Breckland Council's decision to refuse outline planning permission for the Abbey regeneration project in Thetford.
Dave Armstrong, Chief Operating Officer at Bromford Flagship, said: "We're naturally disappointed, but we fully respect the decision and the views that have been shared.
"We've spent the past five years working with local people and listening to their hopes for the Abbey.
"We've heard that change is needed, and we remain committed to working with the council and the community to make that happen."
The proposed regeneration plan would have included improvements to existing homes, the replacement of homes in poor condition, and new energy-efficient homes. The plans also set out proposals for a new community hub with green spaces, safer walking and cycling routes, better parking and lighting, and improved public spaces.
Bromford Flagship’s approach is built around working with local communities to create places where people want to live.
Mr Armstrong added: "Our mission is simple. We want to enable people to thrive. That means quality homes, strong communities, and giving people the support they need to build better lives.
"The Abbey matters to us because the people who live there matter. Our aim remains the same; to improve homes, green spaces, and community facilities in a way that reflects what people want.
"We'll take time now to understand the reasons behind the decision, listen to what's been said, and explore how we move forward together."
Bromford Flagship has always said the Abbey regeneration would be delivered in phases and shaped by local feedback. The organisation will now reflect on the decision and consider next steps whilst maintaining its commitment to the Abbey community.
